DORIS BLOOM
DORIS BLOOM
Doris Bloom (b.1954), born and raised in South Africa, lives and works in Denmark with a degree
in ceramics from the Johannesburg Art College and masters from the Royal Academy of Fine Art in Copenhagen. Her practice explores movement, tracing and mapping a visceral discourse of body, language and memory, that intersects boundaries between biology and technology often adapted in collaborative performance. Her focus is on inherent structures of socio-cultural identities of the body as a bio-semiotic reader and recorder.
She is represented in international public and private art collections with exhibitions at museums and galleries worldwide. Her work has earned her the Danish Lifetime Achievement Honour and other significant awards.
Bloom’s solo exhibition Bird Bone Whistler is currently on show at the Origins Centre Museum at WITS, from 4 May - 23 July 2023.
